When the fires burn in Montafon

Current news, Tips

June 21 is the longest day of 2021. In Montafon, the summer solstice is celebrated two days earlier, on June 19, with an impressive fire show.
When darkness falls this coming Saturday, a tense anticipation will settle over Montafon. On this day, fires will be lit on the peaks and mountain slopes of Montafon to pray for good luck and health, as well as a good harvest in summer.

Preparations are in full swing

On June 19, the Hochjoch in particular will be illuminated by numerous impressive fires that will light up the night. The Montafon organizers will begin their ascent to the Wormser Hut in the afternoon. They will carry the more than 60 wax fires on foot to the Hochjoch, where they will later light up the mountain. The wax fires are made from natural materials, so they burn completely without harming the environment.

At around 9:30 p.m., the time has come: one fire after another is lit on the ridges and peaks of the Montafon, and the flames bathe the valley in a romantic atmosphere. Organized by private initiatives and associations, entire fire pictures often appear on the mountain slopes of the Montafon. Crosses and hearts are popular motifs.

Panoramic views of the spectacle

How wonderful that you have a front-row seat to this impressive experience without having to climb the mountains yourself.
