Up the mountain: the most beautiful hiking trails in Vorarlberg

Tips, Active, Hiking

Regardless of whether you like to take it easy or are a true mountain fanatic who is drawn to the heights in all weathers, a hike or two is definitely part of a vacation at the Fernblick. During your stay, you have a wide range of opportunities to enjoy the Montafon at altitude. Experience pleasure hikes with a delicious picnic, go on a guided hike to the hidden favorite spots that only true Montafon fans know, or explore the surroundings of the Fernblick on your own. Our five favorite hiking routes - from leisurely strolls to professional tours - are presented here.

Which lake is the most beautiful?

You can discover three idyllic natural lakes on this circular hiking trail on the Bartholomäberg. Lake Tora, Lake Fula and Lake Fritzasee lie along the almost 9.5 km route. In around three and a half hours, you can hike without steep ascents and descents and enjoy special views of the Montafon's Maisäß landscape. The romantic little huts, which were once used for cattle breeding, line the hiking trail. Here you can find out everything you need to know about the unique past of this special landscape before your excursion.

On the move without limits

Enjoy the peaceful surroundings of the Montafon without barriers or annoying obstacles. The hiking trail along the Ill is asphalted throughout and therefore offers the ideal opportunity for a leisurely hike for all those who otherwise often have to do without walking. From St. Anton to the Aktivpark Montafon, you will find numerous opportunities to stop for a break or simply watch the river on a park bench. The flat, barrier-free walking trail is easily manageable for all levels.

Corals on the mountain?

200 million years ago, the Montafon was still under the surface of the sea. Back then, the shallow sea formed an impressive coral reef that has been preserved to this day. The only difference is that it is now at an altitude of over 1,700 meters. You can still marvel at the remains of this coral reef on the "upper Wies" on the Kristberg. And the Kristberg circular hiking trail offers you another sight worth seeing on its almost 10 km: Here you have a great view of the Montafon's landmark: the three towers. The unmistakable rock formation is located on the border between Austria and Switzerland and stretches impressively towards the sky.

Attention little explorers

Equipped with binoculars, measuring tape, compass, stopwatch and thermometer, the 5 km children's hiking trail starts at the Bartholomäberg baroque church. There is plenty for the little hikers to discover at the intermediate stops at the Barbara monument and the historic mine. Puzzles, measurements and interesting facts about the special features of Bartholomäberg ensure that time flies by while hiking. The equipment rucksacks contain all the necessary utensils and can be collected free of charge (deposit: €30) from the Montafon tourist offices. There are also exciting children's hiking trails to discover in the other villages of the Montafon.

The climb that's worth it!

For hiking pros, it's up to the Davennaspitze. This challenging route rewards you with a unique panoramic view of the neighboring Klostertal valley, the Arlberg and the Rote Wand opposite. From the Bartholomäberg baroque church, it takes around six hours to hike up to the Davennaspitze and back via the Rellseck. Over the 17 km, you will climb almost 1,000 meters in altitude and experience the nature of the Montafon in its most pristine form. After such a tremendous hiking experience, it's good to relax and unwind in the Fernblick fine-feeling oasis. Now you've earned it!
