Sustainability in the long term – our measures for the future

Current news, Our Hotel, Tips

Sustainability is on everyone's lips, and of course we at Fernblick are also moving with the times. Conserving natural resources has been part of our philosophy for years. That's why we would like to present a few of our measures for more sustainable vacations today:

Regional, seasonal, and delicious

Vorarlberg offers so many culinary possibilities that we use regional products as often as possible. At our breakfast buffet in particular, you will find many dishes that are uniquely connected to the Montafon region, such as the particularly tasty Sura Kees.

Goat's milk products from Helga Fässler can also be found here. As these organic products do not contain any preservatives, their availability is limited to certain seasons. However, we are happy to accept this restriction in the name of sustainability.

Of course, you will also find foods at our breakfast buffet that we produce ourselves at Fernblick. For example, our kitchen team cooks many different varieties of fine jam from fresh fruit. And we are particularly proud of our own drinking water source, "Zassa," which supplies the entire hotel with fresh water of the highest quality.

You will also find specialties from Vorarlberg at our bar. The fine spirits come from Lake Constance, from the Michelehof distillery run by Albert Büchele. Whether plum, pear, or rosehip brandy, they are definitely worth tasting. In autumn, in addition to the liquid delicacies from the Michelehof, our Fernblick is also supplied with fresh apples, which you can find at our breakfast and wellness buffet. You will also find creative drink creations straight from the Montafon at our Fernblick bar. Doris & Harald Bitschnau produce fine spirits at Verners 2020 in Bartholomäberg. The selection ranges from spruce tip schnapps to original Montafon gin.

Wellness with a clear conscience

A lot of energy is needed to ensure you can relax in the comfortably warm water of our five pools. That's why we heat our wellness area in winter using resource-saving geothermal energy. In summer, the photovoltaic system directly in front of our hotel heats the water for your swimming break. We also heat the rooms, restaurants, and other hotel areas in an environmentally friendly way using pellets.

Fruity juices and fresh spring water are available for you all day long in our wellness area. The cups are made from biodegradable corn starch and are therefore more sustainable than plastic, despite being single-use.

In recent months, we have received feedback from many regular guests that they like to bring their own slippers with them on their wellness break, so we no longer include slippers in the bath bag as standard. Of course, you can still pick up your pair at our reception before making yourself comfortable in our relaxation pool lounge.

You can also feel sustainability directly on your skin in our Me(e)hr_blickSpa. The hay flowers and herbs for our Valleuer herbal stamps come directly from the surrounding area. Our staff use them to massage the tension out of your muscles. The ingredients for our goat butter cream wrap and our relaxing natural whey bath also come from the region.

Acting sustainably – even small actions are important!

It's not just large-scale measures that make a big difference in terms of sustainability; small changes can also have a significant impact. Many of our guests now travel to Montafon by train. We provide a pick-up service for the last few kilometers. This results in significantly lower CO2 emissions than traveling by car.

Another practical feature for guests arriving by train is that they can hire sports equipment from Fernblick. Simply reserve mountain bikes for your exploration tours around Bartholomäberg by phone or email before you arrive – completely eco-friendly and without electricity. Those who prefer to travel by e-bike can rent the latest models from our partner Intersport in Schruns. In winter, we have numerous pairs of snowshoes in all standard sizes in stock, so you can trudge through the unique winter landscape.

In the coming years, we want to continue working as hosts to bring about positive change towards a sustainable future. We look forward to you joining us on this journey at Fernblick.

Host, Head of Food & Beverage

"A good drink always tells a story—preferably right at the bar." As F&B Manager at Fernblick, Lukas Fürst has a particular passion for the world of cocktails, fine spirits, and the diversity of wines. He knows how to transform the bar into a meeting place where guests feel comfortable and strike up conversations. Whether it's a classic creation or a new composition, what matters to him is that every drink becomes a little experience.

In the blog, he gives insights behind the bar, reveals his favorite recipes, and talks about the special moments that only happen at a hotel bar.
