Reading tips for fall – relaxation and enjoyment in Montafon

Tips, Current news

It is now getting dark much earlier in the afternoon and fine drizzle is pattering against the window panes. When autumn shows us its cold shoulder, there is nothing better than curling up at home with a hot cup of tea and a good book. To satisfy your wanderlust, we have three reading tips for you today:

1. A classic with a Montafon connection

He was one of the greatest writers of the 20th century. Ernest Hemingway was known for his unique style, which he demonstrated in his most famous story, "The Old Man and the Sea." In 1954, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. However, he had already visited the beautiful Montafon in 1924 and 1925 to spend the winter months skiing with his young family. He revives memories of this time in his work "A Moveable Feast":

"We drove to Schruns in Vorarlberg, Austria. The train passed through Liechtenstein and stopped in Bludenz, where a small branch line led along a stony trout stream, through a valley with farms and forests to Schruns, a sunny market town with sawmills, shops, inns, and a good hotel called Die Taube, which was open all year round and where we stayed."

Why not relax while reading the works of one of the greatest writers who shares your enthusiasm for the beautiful Montafon region?

2. Stunning views

Traditional alpine pastures, mountain peaks, and blooming valleys. The nature of the Montafon is simply incomparable. Immerse yourself in it with the illustrated book "Montafon: Heimat in den Bergen" (Montafon: Home in the Mountains). The impressive pictures will immediately transport you back to your last stay with us at Fernblick. And you're sure to find some inspiration for a varied hiking tour for your next visit with us!

3. Murderous suspense

Even in idyllic Vorarlberg, not everything is as peaceful as it seems. At least not according to crime writer Martin Mucha. In his novel "Funkenfeuer" (Bonfire), the Vorarlberg native reveals the dark side of the inhabitants of a fictional mountain village. And there are a few things that don't fit into this idyllic world: during the traditional burning of the "Funken" (bonfire), a teacher disappears and Sergeant Schmiedle has to investigate. An exciting crime novel that could also take place in one of the villages of the Montafon.
