Montafon lesson 8: "Luaga, Losna & Stuna"

Current news, Tips

Under the motto "Luaga, Losna & Stuna," which means "Look, Listen & Marvel!", a series of events will take place in Montafon until the end of October, bringing you closer to the history of this special valley. Daily events provide information about the distinctive folk culture and history of Montafon.

Monday:

The week kicks off with the "Montafon Winter Sports Collection" guided tour. Between 2:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., you can gain insights into the long history of skiing and winter sports in Montafon. Information about famous winter athletes from the region and memorabilia from the early days of skiing can be admired here.

Tuesday:

Today, a discovery walk through Gaschurn is on the agenda. The meeting point for the approximately one-hour walk is the entrance to St. Michael's Church. From there, the walk continues through the town center to unique buildings such as the Maria Schnee Chapel, the Tanzlaube, and the historic Lukas-Tschofen-Stube.

Thursday:

Today, there are two exciting events on the program. At 10:00 a.m., the "Montafonerhaus-Weg" guided tour starts, on which you can discover the classic building culture of the valley at numerous preserved historical buildings in picturesque Gortipohl.

The tour continues at 4:00 p.m. right near the Fernblick. Expert Klaus Bertle will guide interested visitors through the historic church of Bartholomäberg. The foundation stone for the church was laid in 1729. However, the first parish in the municipality was built as early as the 11th century. Here you will find impressive art treasures, about which the expert can tell some exciting stories.

Friday:

Today, something special is on the agenda. At the old sawmill on the Rasafeibach, you can experience firsthand how sawing was done back in 1907. The large water wheel drives the large vertical saw blade by means of two flywheels, which in turn cuts the logs. The impressive spectacle from times gone by begins at 1:30 p.m.

Saturday:

Today we continue on the Bielerhöhe: the meeting point for the "Art and Culture in the Silvretta" guided tour is at the Silvrettasee bus stop at 10:15 a.m. You will gain insight and interesting information about the contemporary works of art on display here.

In the afternoon, there will be a guided tour of the parish church of St. Gallenkirchen. A special highlight are the Old Testament ceiling paintings from the 18th century. The tour starts at 4:30 p.m. and lasts about 45 minutes.

Sunday:

On Sunday, we will explore the largest village in the Montafon. The cultural walk through Schruns starts at 10:00 a.m. at the Montafon Local History Museum. Learn all about the historical folk culture and the history of trade and livestock farming in the valley. Stroll through the picturesque village that once inspired the famous American writer Ernest Hemingway.

To round off the week, a tour of the "old schoolhouse in Bitschweil" is on the program at 1:30 p.m. Built in 1824, the schoolhouse in the remote hamlet of Bitschweil is now a small school museum showcasing historical education and building culture from the early 19th century.

Whether you want to attend one, two, or all of the "Luaga, Losna & Stuna" events is up to you. Admission to the tours is free and registration is not required. This makes spontaneity fun!
