Good reasons for a hike

Tips, Active

The leaves turn colorful and the forest in Montafon is transformed into a true natural idyll. The view of this splendor from our wellness area is incomparable, but during your next stay at Fernblick, you should definitely plan a hike or two. Because hiking is good for the body and soul. Today we have 5 reasons for hiking for you:

1. Completely new insights

"Mountains from below, churches from the outside, and inns from the inside" is a well-known saying that should be taken with a grain of salt. Because the mountains in Montafon have a lot to offer. All 21 of Vorarlberg's three-thousand-meter peaks can be found in our region, and the view from each summit is unique. Nothing beats the feeling of letting your gaze wander over the natural landscape below after a successful climb.

2. A special kind of bathing experience

The Japanese call it Shinrin-yoku – forest bathing is very popular in the Far East. As early as the 1980s, the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture introduced initiatives to promote forest bathing. Immersing yourself in the forest, often away from the beaten track, is a conscious encounter between humans and nature. The fragrant forest air promotes concentration and reduces stress levels. In the hiking village of Gargellen, there are guided forest bathing tours every Thursday with author Dr. Gerlinde Manz-Christ. In her book "Arrive. Breathe. Rediscover yourself through closeness to nature," she explains the benefits of this special experience in nature.

3. The heart gives thanks

Hiking is healthy. Exercise in the fresh air strengthens the heart and circulation, helping to prevent serious illnesses. Muscles, tendons, and ligaments are trained. Those who hike a lot also train their balance. The balance that we increasingly lose over the course of our lives on paved roads is needed on uneven forest floors and can thus be rebuilt. In Montafon, there are 1,160 km of hiking trails available for you to do something good for your body. Provided, of course, that you choose tours that match your fitness level and do not exceed your physical limits.

4. At one with nature

Those who hike a lot get to know nature better than would otherwise be possible. Do you know the difference between fir and spruce trees, or do you know what sounds a jay makes? The more time you spend in the forest and mountains, the more you learn! Encounters with rare animals such as chamois and marmots are not uncommon in the Alps. These are memories that will last a lifetime.

5. The reward awaits at the end

There are so many good reasons to go hiking that this one is actually unnecessary. However, a hearty snack at a mountain hut is good motivation. Here in Vorarlberg, we think that a serving of "Käsknöpfle" is worth any hike.
