Experience the musical Montafon

Tips

An incomparable mountain panorama, relaxing wellness highlights and the warm atmosphere at the Fernblick - how could a vacation like this be any better? In the Montafon, there are also numerous musical highlights to make your stay in this valley perfect. Because there really is something for every taste here!

Tradition that can be heard

There are nine brass bands in the Montafon. Each village has its own formations that delight visitors at open-air concerts or morning pints, a cozy get-together in the morning. Even if many performances have to take place in a somewhat restricted form due to the corona measures, the music has lost none of its rousing power. And there is no shortage of traditional Alpine folk music either: you can experience many small Stubenmusik formations or harmonica players at a wide variety of venues. Our reception team will be happy to help you find the right music experience for you.

Rock in the Montafon dialect

The music of the band Krauthobel goes in a completely different direction, away from the traditional style. The group, which takes its peculiar name from its first rehearsal venue, a former Krauthobel factory, is the bedrock of the Montafon rock scene. The members of the band have been performing together on stage for over 20 years, performing their hits in Montafon dialect. Emotional ballads with titles such as " Jugadjahr" alternate with funny songs such as "Sayonara Tante Klara". One of the biggest events in the Montafon is the annual Krauthobel open-air concert on the church square in Schruns. Unfortunately, it had to be canceled this year, but two Krauthobel "AnplAKT" concerts will take place on August 14 and 15. You can enjoy the exceptional musicians on the panoramic terrace of the Kapellrestaurant (Zamang Bahn mountain station). You can also experience the Krauthobel sound online on YouTube or other streaming platforms. So if you're longing for the Montafon dialect, you've come to the right place.

An anthem for the Montafon

It continues romantically: "Muntafu - min Dahem bist Du", sings Falco Luneau about his home valley. This touching hymn to our unique living space was created last year in collaboration with Montafon Tourism. The song gives both locals and guests goosebumps. Because anyone who has ever seen the impressive landscape of this valley with their own eyes would immediately sign the lines "Si hon a enzigs mol üsri Bergluft grocha, wöran süchtig dass sie gära wedr kon" (They have smelled our mountain air once and got hooked on it, so they like to come back). Don't you feel the same way?

Extra tip: The flute player from the Kristberg

You can enjoy a unique performance by Adolf Zudrell, the flute player from the Kristberg, during a miners' tour in the St. Agatha Chapel. The trained hiking and cultural guide accompanies his explanations about the mystical time of mining in the Montafon with his unique flute playing. Here you can find audio samples and further information about the impressive flute player.
