By bike through the Montafon - two tours, two worlds

Active, Current news, Tips

When the wind blows through your hair, the trail crunches under your tires and your gaze wanders over the green peaks of the Montafon, then it's that time again: bike time at Fernblick. The region around our hotel has something for everyone, from sporty adventures to gentle nature experiences - whether you're a die-hard mountain bike pro or a curious beginner.

Today we present two very special tours: one for those who are looking for a challenge - and one for those who want to discover the Montafon in a relaxed way by bike. And if you haven't brought your own e-bike, you can hire high-quality e-bikes from us at the Fernblick for a fee.

Around the Itonskopf - where experts reach their limits

This tour is not for the faint-hearted. If you dare to take on the route around the Itonskopf, you can look forward to a real challenge - technically demanding, scenically magnificent and with plenty of elevation gain.
The route starts from Fernblick and leads you up the mountain on well-maintained asphalt. The road meanders past lush meadows and quiet farmsteads before it joins a forest road and slowly climbs towards Itonskopf. Here you can feel the pulse of the mountains: as soon as you leave the first climb behind you, pleasant passages open up. Technically experienced riders enjoy steep bends, rooty sections and that real mountain bike kick - in the middle of alpine terrain, surrounded by the mighty rock of the Itonskopf, which towers over the valley like a silent sentinel.

While the single trail finally joins the circular route around the Itonskopf, the panorama remains the great experience: breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks and valleys open up again and again. From here, the tour - after the technical single trail fireworks - runs elegantly back along forest paths and forest roads until you reach the asphalt route again.
The tour not only requires stamina, but also a good level of riding technique. Some sections are steep and require concentration and control of the bike. But that's exactly what makes it so appealing. Again and again, fantastic views open up over the Montafon and the Klostertal. Those who accept the challenge will be rewarded with an incomparable experience of nature - and the good feeling of having achieved something.

The stations at a glance

  • Start with us at Fernblick
  • Bärger Lädili (small store) on the path towards Rellseck
  • The last third of the way to Rellseck is gravelled ground
  • Stopover at Rellseck to enjoy the beautiful viewpoint into the Walgau, there is also a refreshment stop here at Alpengasthaus Rellseck
  • The highlight: the highest point of the tour, the Alplegi
  • Another refreshment stop at the Alpe Latons
  • Then it's on to the single trail entrance
  • After 30 minutes, you can enjoy the view of the Klostertal from the Falla
  • Then it's time for the descent
  • Past the Fritzensee lake, which we also recommend as a hiking destination because of its beautiful view
  • Return to Bartholomäberg church and then on to Fernblick

A little tip for all those traveling by e-bike: Charge your battery well, because the climb is a long one. And even if the motor helps - the Montafon remains an alpine region that deserves respect.

The miners' tour - a relaxed adventure in the Silbertal valley

If you prefer to take it easy, the Bergknappentour is the perfect choice. This tour also starts directly at Fernblick and leads into the idyllic Silbertal valley - a landscape that looks as if it has sprung from a local movie. We set off at a leisurely pace along the river, ascending gently to Hasahüsli. There you can take a short breather - perhaps with a refreshment stop before the trail continues towards the Wildried high moor.
The highest raised bog in Europe is home to endangered plants. A natural jewel that is rarely seen elsewhere. From Wildried, the trail continues without any ascent to the Kristberg, where the Gasthof Kristberg invites you to take a break and the view rewards you for the effort.

The stations at a glance

  • Start with us at Fernblick
  • Via the road into Silbertal past the Kristbergbahn cable car
  • Along the river to the Hasahüsli - refreshment stop possible
  • In between, make a short stop at the Teufelsbach for a souvenir photo
  • Continue towards the Wildried high moor - this is the most strenuous part of the tour
  • Continue to Gasthof Kristberg, where you can enjoy a well-earned refreshment stop
  • Then back to the Fernblick

The Bergknappentour is ideal for anyone who wants to discover the Montafon by bike without immediately reaching their limits. This route is also perfect for less experienced e-bike fans.
And best of all: after the tour, the Fernblick has everything you could wish for after an active day - a dip in the Sky Pool, some well-earned wellness time and a good glass of wine on the terrace.

Bike time is long-distance view time

Whether you dare to tackle the steep climbs on the Itonskopf or prefer a relaxed ride through the Silbertal - the Montafon is made for biking. And the Fernblick? Your perfect starting point. Because the adventure starts right outside the door. And after the tour? That's where the enjoyment begins.
So: put on your helmet, pack your rucksack and get pedaling - the Montafon awaits.
