Between Glistening Firn and the First Crocuses: Winter Hiking in Spring

Tips, Current news, Wellness0, Hiking

When the days noticeably lengthen and the sun begins to tickle your nose, a truly magical time begins in the Montafon. It is that special phase where winter isn't quite ready to say goodbye, while spring is already quietly knocking on the door. For us at Hotel Fernblick, this is the most beautiful time to lace up our hiking boots.

The Best of Both Worlds

Imagine this: you trudge across perfectly groomed, snow-covered paths, while the air already carries that irresistible scent of fresh earth and new beginnings. While the snow still glistens in the shaded valleys, the first alpine flowers are already poking their heads through the melting snowpack on the sun-drenched slopes around the Bartholomäberg.

Why the Montafon is at its most beautiful right now:

  • Radiant: Your "outdoor time" is extended. You can enjoy the warmth of the March sun during a long rest on a bench without immediately feeling the chill.
  • Enjoy the Silence: A peaceful stillness reigns on the mountain. The loud crunch of frozen snow gives way to the gentle splashing of small meltwater streams.
  • Views to Marvel At: The spring air is often exceptionally clear. The view from our terrace or the hiking trails toward the snow-capped peaks of the Silvretta and Rätikon now looks almost like a postcard in HD.

Your Perfect Day in "Spring-Winter"

After a hearty breakfast with us, you head straight out into the awakening nature. Perhaps your path leads you up toward Kristberg or across the "Sun Balcony" plateau. You set the pace yourself – sometimes sporty through the old snow, sometimes pausing to listen to the first bird songs of the year.

And the best part? The anticipation of returning. When your legs feel pleasantly heavy after the hike, our Sky Pool Montafon awaits you. There, you can drift in the cozy warm water while your gaze wanders over the peaks you just explored on foot.

Tip from the Fernblick Team: Pack your sunglasses and a good sunscreen! The reflection of the snow combined with the intense spring sun is often underestimated.
