Adventure off the beaten track - discover the Montafon with us

Active, Tips

Switch off your thoughts and just feel the terrain under your feet. With every step you take through the surroundings, everyday life moves further away and you are in the here and now. Trail running is the name of the trend sport that makes this possible. It can be practiced perfectly in the mountains of the Montafon. Varied trails from beginners' trails to professional routes await you here.

In harmony with your body

Trail running is easy to explain: it is running away from the asphalt. Over alpine meadows, mountain trails and over hill and dale. You not only train your endurance, but also your agility. The changing terrain requires you to pay close attention to your surroundings. So you are fully focused on what you are doing. Professional trail runner Denise Goßner also likes this special feeling when running: "On the trail in the mountains, I am far removed from everyday problems and stress. My body and mind are completely in harmony," explains the passionate mountain runner, who greatly appreciates the Vorarlberg mountains.

Just start

One of the reasons why trail running is so popular is that it doesn't take much to get started. As an experienced jogger, all you need are good running shoes, comfortable and functional clothing and some basic fitness and you're ready to go. It is important for beginners not to overestimate themselves. Short, easy routes are ideal for beginners. Like the Teufelsbach loop in Silbertal, which runs for 4.4 km along forest paths past the impressive Teufelsbach waterfall. But you don't necessarily need a special route to experience trail running: simply start directly from the Fernblick door and run for special views of the Montafon mountains. Because trail running is first and foremost about the sporting experience in nature. Denise Goßner shares this opinion: "For me, trail running is the ideal combination of running, nature, mountains, training and a balance to everyday life," enthuses the young athlete, who has been taking part in trail running races throughout Europe for several years.

On your marks, get set, go!

The Montafon also offers mountain races. On September 19, the Montafon mountain run organized by SCS Partenen will take place for the sixth time. This sprint over 2 km and 500 meters in altitude leads through the unique Maisäß landscape of the Montafon and rewards the sporty participants with a breathtaking view at the finish line.

You can run longer at the traditional Frauen Berg Gaudi. The women's running event is taking place virtually this year due to the coronavirus. You can run on the original route in Gargellen for the whole of September. The 8.6 km tour leads from the Schafberg Hüsli via the St. Antönier Joch, the Gafiersee and the Gafierjoch into Switzerland and back to the start. The impressions are then shared online.

Then comes the relaxation

What you shouldn't miss out on when trail running, however, is rewarding yourself for your performance afterwards and relaxing thoroughly. The best place to do this is in the new Fernblick "Saunahus", where our event sauna, the infinity relaxation pool and numerous quiet lounges are available for your regeneration time-out.
